Meet the Press
Bre Copeland
Copeland is a senior this year and has been in Journalism since she was in the 8th grade, so this year will be her fifth year in Journalism. Bre joined journalism because she enjoys writing. She also considered taking it as a career. Bre is looking forward to many events in the upcoming year. Events such as seeing the Packer Press grow Homecoming, and Graduation.
Bre has many different activities she enjoys doing. The most important activity she enjoys doing would be singing. She started singing with her church choir and the karaoke machine when she was younger. Bre has been singing all her life, but it really took effect when she was 13 years old. Her favorite genre of music would be R&B for the majority. Some of favorite artists are Tevin Campbell, Keith Sweat, Meek Millz, and Rich Homie Quan.
In the future, Bre wants to go to the school of Creative Arts and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA. She wants to see herself in college, with a job, and her own apartment and car in the next 3 or 5 years. Bre’s one big goal is to become an entrepreneur, so she could own her own business.
Claudia Oro
Fourth year Journalism student, Claudia Oro, is looking forward to another year of Journalism. Her writing experience varies with having high level literature classes, such as AP Language/Composition, and having a high level of Journalism, Journalism III. Her writing experience allows her to help critique the writing of others whether they are a higher or lower level than her. Claudia likes to help edit, read, and write articles. She enjoys writing about healthcare, current events, and other interesting topics. The beat she has chosen for the2015-16 school year is healthcare, HOSA, and student news.
Claudia, being born in Cuba, has a broad cultural background. With her background being largely Cuban, she says her favorite sandwich is a Cuban BLT because it reminds her of her Cuban culture. Claudia enjoys doing many activities outside of school such as painting, shopping, applying makeup, and cooking. Her educational activities involve studying and researching medicine. When talking to Claudia, one of the first things you will learn about her is her love for Cuba. She loves to travel there and many other places. Claudia has a bubbly and eager personality. She likes to hangout with friends and socialize with anyone, so don’t ever be afraid to say, “Hi!”
Dylan Wages
“Is your glass half empty or half full?”
“Half empty because you can always have room for improvement.” was how Dylan responded to my question. It’s Dylan’s third year being a member of the Packer Press. He loves to write poetry and short stories. Although he likes to write, he will not seek a career in the writing industry. Alternatively, he would like to attend UGA and major in physics and chemistry.
Dylan, an intelligent sixteen year old, was born on August 24, 1998. His favorite academic subjects are math and physics because he believes one is truly thinking for oneself while studying these things. Dylan likes to think out of the box and always keeps his mind set on his goals, which include graduating high school and attending college. Although he spends most of his free time playing video games and constructing things with his father, Dylan is a very brilliant, concentrated, and ambitious person who is a splendid member of the Packer Press.
Gabi Lirio
With an amazing personality and always outgoing in any situation, Gabi Lirio joins Journalism class one more year. Gabi started journalism her sophomore year, spontaneously, and she enjoyed the class. With her writing experience, she helps other students with their articles, and she gives constructive criticism about any subject during class. Her strengths in writing include engaging the reader in any article, informing the student and staff body of certain things with enthusiasm, and writing articles on a short notice. Gabi’s focusing on writing about soccer this year, and anything that has to do with Marine life, or wildlife.
Gabi enjoys dancing frequently, and reading interesting books about things that tie in with her culture and personality. She has danced for about six years, but she has retired for the time being. Gabi is one of the smartest students in the graduating class of 2017, hitting Top Ten GPA, which is pretty impressive. She enjoys spending time with her Cuban family and eating Cuban food at all times. She admires her grandmother or “Abuela” greatly, and spends a lot of her vacationing time in West Palm, Florida with her. Gabi is a very social and interactive student, and no matter what she is being distracted by, she still seems to absorb all of the information to make perfect grades on tests. She is excited to spend another year in Journalism and to put her experiences to use one more year.
Noemi Charles
Getting to know people is an important part of a functional society. People have different interests, pursue different goals, have different ideas, and come from a variety of backgrounds. The Packer Press sat and interviewed people to find out what makes them unique and interesting.
I sat in the ideal modern-day classroom with a touchscreenTV up front and a variety of posters that is Mrs. Passmore’s classroom with the adventurous, optimistic Noemi Charles to dig deep intothe mind of another student at CCHS. We both sat in oddly shaped, half-square desks with gray marble imitation as a top consecutive from one another.
Although not the most important and emphasized part ofthe conversation, I begun with “what animal makes you the most afraid?” to which she replied, “It’s not that I’m exactly afraid of them, but snakes makeme feel the most uncomfortable.” I then went on to ask about whether she felt that the glass was half full or half empty. She then told me, “Halffull.” She explained the reason for this was that she believes that she believes in looking at the brighter side of a situation.
Noemi has a particular interest in the arts. When askedabout her hobbies, she stated that she loves to write poetry and read novels. She gets her books from both thrift shops and places that have madea name for themselves such as Books-A-Million. She enjoys viewing abstract art due to the many ways you can interpret a painting in that specific genre.
What really sparks my interest about her are her influences and pieces of her political views. As we steered deeper into the conversation, I learned Noemi is a huge advocate for feminism, but she does not necessarily consider herself a feminist due to how much information she hasn’t learned about being a feminist. In fact, Orion Carloto is one of her biggest influences by being an inspiration for positive thinking and an advocate for feminism.
Cassidy Weaver
Cassidy Weaver, an eleventh grader and third year Journalism student, is one of those “cool” kids with a cup of coffee in one hand and Pinterest on her mind. Her favorite sandwich is the Italian sub, which she claims is a typical white person sandwich. Ostriches are not her spirit animal because she's terrified of big birds. If Weaver found $300, she would be humble and see who had it first… before she would keep it. She doesn't believe in the stalker-ish "Call Me Maybe" song because she doesn't believe that is the way to attract a crush. All in all, Weaver is an excellent writer, journalist, trusty Pinterest user, and a good friend to converse with.
Allison Logan
Allison Logan, born on August 11, 2000, is a third year Journalism student. She plans on continuing Journalism throughout her high school career and major it in college. Estimably in five years, she sees herself in college majoring in Journalism and better at her Special Effects skills; because of her accomplishments in her Special Effects, she stated that it would be her secondary career. She also hopes to be happier and healthier, both mentally and physically.
When Allison was asked why she chose the pathway of Journalism, she responded with “I like reading topics and events that are serious to me. I find everything in the world interesting.” If she can eat any meal for the rest of her life, she would choose pancakes. What an interesting choice, right? Teleporting would be her superpower if she could have one. She dislikes any and every pop song on the face of the earth.
Ty Breland
Ty Breland, a sophomore and second year Journalism student, was born August 15, 2000, in Moultrie, Georgia at Colquitt County Regional Medical Center. At 15 years old, he is talented, outgoing, and a smart young man.
In 5 years from now, he sees himself in the Army getting money and saving our country. He also sees himself married and having two beautiful kids. When he sees the word “power” he thinks of the ability to do anything he can put his mind to. When asking who would play him in a movie about his life, he responded with, “I would play myself because nobody knows my life more than I do”. Breland believes Journalism is a good start for him to make himself successful in writing and as a person.

Daijranae McCloud
Second year journalism student and eleventh grader, Daijranae McCloud, is the most well rounded individual to ever exist, and these are the reasons why. She orders club sandwiches, which is a sandwich with everything on it, so that shows that she's a universal person. Snakes are not her favorite animal, so if a strange situation were to arise where a deadly snake was ready to attack, she could totally beast out like a ninja warrior and conquer the creature, but she wouldn’t kill it because she doesn't believe in animal abuse. If she found $300, her first thought would be to make it rain, and if that's not “Presidential material”, then I don't know what is.
Another rad thing about Daijranae is that she wants to play the Bari Saxophone. If she had to eat one food item for the rest of her life, it would be pizza, which is basically saying she’s original and stays true to herself. The joker is her favorite villain, and Superman is her favorite superhero, so that explains how she accepts people for who they are without judgment.
To sum it all up, if there was a movie based on Daijranae's life, the person casted to play her would be a British guy who drinks coffee and writes on Wattpad while hanging with the Joker. At some point in the movie, a mysterious man in a dark suit would suddenly appear from a creepy alley and whisper a single question, “Do you want to go to space?" And without pondering the thought, Daijranae (British guy) will reply with “No," because she'd rather write a song about space than actually go to space. For Daijranae, positivity is the key to life, so seeing the glass as half full is the first step to a successful life.
